Welcome to our brand new Active School initiative. Remember, 60 minutes- have you had yours?!
In order to provide opportunity for our children to complete 60 minutes physical activity each day, we have teamed up with our local GAA club, St. Fintan’s, to establish a ‘club school link’ and to begin the very popular “Hurling 365” programme. The programme has already begun in January 2018.
It takes place;
Before school each Tuesday between 8.15am and 9.10am for 2nd - 4th class
After school each Tuesday between 3.00pm and 4.00pm for 5th and 6th class
Once our current plan is established and the weather gets warmer it is hoped to create a weekly time slot for Junior Infants- 1st Class also (possibly after Easter break)
If cancelled due to bad weather it will automatically be on Thursday- same time, same place!
Fear not footballers! It's not just hurling. We are providing football and hurling coaching in blocks according to our school and club status of playing both codes of our national games.
“...the healthy benefits that come from physical activity aren’t the only reason children should walk or bike to school....exercise before school improves concentration as well...” (activeforlife.com)
St. Fintan’s GAA Club and Mayglass NS Hurling 365 Our Aim: “To develop the whole child” In keeping with our school’s ethos of “developing the whole child- intellectually, physically and emotionally” our Hurling 365 initiative aims to build on this already well established ethos, with emphasis on the Physical and Social aspects especially. By developing friendships and teamwork skills
Above all, having fun and being active!

This morning's 365 was by far the most fun yet! We even had one man turn up on his new bike as part of active week- go Ronan!
With so many coaches on hand, improvement is almost visible on a weekly basis. Thanks so much to Davy, Trev, Dermot. Pat, Walter and Paddy and all the other coaches who will be involved over the coming weeks and months- we couldn't do it without you.
Skills for this week- Hand pass (both hands!) and solo again (because it's tricky!)
Well done to Sinéad who was voted our star performer this week- yaayy!
Our final football 365 for this term. Huge improvements all round- some super scores this morning. Well done to Cian, our star performer this week- well done!
