Junior and Senior Infants have spent the last 2 weeks investigating the beach and the seaside through the aistear programme. With the beautiful weather this week we decided to hop on the bus with David and grandad Billy and see if we could find some treasure in the the rockpools. Then a visit to the marina, the picnic tables and the playground. A special day, full of special memories. We saw limpets, crab shells, scallop shells, bladderwrack seaweed and other seaweed and lots of beautiful sea pebbles. It was great to have a paddle and a climb oin the rocks. Irish International soccer player Stephen Hunt visited the school on Thursday and stayed to answer questions, pose for photos and demonstrate his keepy uppy skills. WOW. Or 'awesome' as Jack Cave put it... I'm just wondering in the photo with Mr Gahan if Stephen is presenting Mr Gahan with his signed boots or if Mr Gahan is presenting Stephen with his own signed Monageer Intermediate Hurling team boots... A great role model for the children, hopefully Stephen will be back. And the keepy uppies (not sure that's spelled correctly) 5th and 6th Class went on a science field trip on Friday to Eden Vale to examine the wildlife in the river. Look at the pictures below. And some videos: In a (dramatic) move away from our healthy eating policy, we had an ice-cream day in 6th class today. The pupils also entertained themselves with a darts tournament - ping pong next week. On a slightly damp and very windy morning, 20 children from 2nd Class went to Mayglass Church ro receive their First Holy Communion. The style was great and the singing even better. Well done to all the choir members. Congratulations to everyone and thank you to Mrs Lacey and husband Niall for the lovely music and to Ms Druhan, Ms Mooney and Ms Sinnott for preparing the children. We were blessed with the weather for the 3rd year in a row for the Mayglass 4 mile run. Very proud in particular of all the pupils who finished - again, Oisin was the first pupil to finish. Enjoy the video of our resident piper (thanks again Hamish) and the slideshow of the participants. For many more photos go to facebook and search Mayglass fun run. Thanks to Mary Mulligan for the pics. A special thank you to Peter Lyons for organising the race and to the Parents' Association for the tea and sandwiches and to all the marshalls. Thanks again and see you next year! |
